Use Right Needle for Your Sewing Project
Do you know?
you have to use new needles for your different types of new projects
if you don’t change needles according to your project, there are more chances of needles being broken.
This is because blunt or dull needles have a difficult time piercing through multiple layers of fabric and they can jam and break off.
There are different types of needles available in the market regarding the thickness of thread and fabrics
If the needle is too short, it might not go deep enough into your sewing machine to interlock with the bobbin thread.
A universal needle will work in most cases, but you should also have ballpoint needles on hand for sewing knits and heavy-duty needles for sewing through leather and thick fabric like denim
But all sewing machines do not feature this, you can find it in your sewing machine manual.
Adjust Your Needle Alignment (Left, Right& Center) When Using a New Presser Foot
The most common case as I have seen is, that it breaks when the needle hits the pressure foot,
whenever you change the pressure foot to a new one, make sure to check the alignment of the needle slowly by stitching one round.
Generally, there are 3 types of alignment on the pressure foot Left, Right, and Center.
when the needle alignment is not set to the center the needle hits the pressure foot and breaks hard.
Bonus Tip: Make sure to tighten the needle bar and presser foot.
Make sure to clean your sewing machine
This is also one of the lazy factors that make the sewing machine needles break, it’s very prominent to clean the machine as much you use it.
There is a lot of thread kind of stuff collected around the bobbin case, clean it with the help of brush and clean clothes.
Bonus Tip: also use a small vacuum cleaner to suck lints
Don’t Pull on the Fabric While Sewing
Do not pull your fabric with heavy force as it may cause the needle, to bend and may cause the needle to turn to bounce right into your eye.
Do Not Sew Direct Over A Pin
If you have to use pins in your project, then you can do it with confidence and precision,
you need to care about the pins to be perpendicular when the needle comes around it,
Be sure to also keep the heads of pins away from the stitching line so that your needle doesn’t break if you accidentally forget to remove a pin.
